Nothing Without Sustenance

Sustenance: food and drink regarded as a source of strength; nourishment

I challenged myself this morning (Monday) to put nothing in my body this week that didn't add nutritional value. I mean, I eat well, don't get me wrong. But I'm also not afraid of cookies and pizza and...errr...the occasional Red Bull. Or 12.

But what nutritional value do cookies and pizza and Red Bull actually add to my body? What nutrients are available that make me a healthier athlete or perform better? Sure there are SOME ingredients (like veggies on a pizza) that are good for me...but I'm consuming these items for their taste not their nutritional reward.

THEREFORE, nothing goes into this body for taste - it's all for nutrition!
I'm kind of pushing the reset button on my nutrition.

I've read that when you're "craving" things it's because your body needs more of the nutrient found in the item you crave. For example, when you're craving chocolate it's actually your bodies way of telling you that you need magnesium. Carbs - nitrogen. Salt - chloride or silicon. I've attached a handy chart for all of us! And I'm going to test the theory all this week (because TRUST me, I have INSANE cravings! Like, I've cried over Oreo's before. TRUE STORY!).

Breakfast was all about protein: I had 2 eggs and 2 pieces of turkey sausage followed by a Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness for 2 3/4 servings of fruit. I won't bore you with my food everyday but I will be keeping track of it on my own along with my cravings and what I ate instead to see if this ^^ chart stands true. I'm challenging you to do the same!!
