If You Never Tri, You'll Never Know!

Accomplishment Stickers

I'm always hearing this or that about accomplishment stickers and magnets on your car and whether or not they're "over the top" or stupid or cool or what...

Some people start with a 5k sticker and replace it with bigger races as they complete them and some people pile more and more stickers until they're rear windshield is covered in questionable number and letter combinations. 5k, 10k, 26.2, 13.1, 50k, 100, 70.3, 140.6, and more.

So I'm on this Ironman group on FB and someone brought it up. I was instantly annoyed by (most of) the comments. "Over the top", "no way", "over kill", "not a fan", "stupid". **they also discussed in this same post triathlon tattoos...

My comment, "Who cares. Let people be whoever they want. If that includes stickers and tattoos so be it. "Over the top"? What kind of triathlete sets limits? Celebrate your successes however you want and who cares what any of us think about it." Can I get 789 Likes on this please!?!

I think I'm about to go on a rant...

Do you seriously care what I put on my car!? Does it really alter or affect your day to day operations!? Are you really going to make fun of my accomplishments that I am so proud of?! Stupid!? It's stupid that I'm proud of myself for finishing a 5k, 10k, Ironman, or any other distance race!? That's STUPID!? If that's your definition of stupid I'd sure like to see the inside of your brain for what's NOT stupid.

Leave people alone. Stop hating on people for doing what they want to do! 5k or 100 miles, they're proud of themselves and they want to see it on their car and show the world what they accomplished.
It's motivating. They are inspirational. They make me want to drive up to your window and wave at you and give you a thumbs up or a car to car air high five. I want to know you and run with you or tri with you or ask what race you did. I want your whole race report! I want to know what you ate and who you trained with and where and if you know my friends. Yeah, one little sticker sparks all that!

You go ahead and put 1 or 15 or 80 stickers on your car. I think they're fantastic.
Celebrate your successes however you want and who cares what any of us think about it.

Rant complete.
Thanks for listening.
