If You Never Tri, You'll Never Know!

Facebook Disgrace

This was originally a little Facebook rant on my TOA page but I decided it needs to be published here too in hopes to broaden readability. And you know what kinda sucks? I was a little reluctant to even post it out of fear of backlash. As if I'M the wrong one for feeling intolerable about it...

I can’t stand the body shaming - which is bullying!!!! on FB anymore!!
POSTING A PICTURE OF SOMEONE ON SOCIAL MEDIA (w/out them knowing) TO MAKE FUN OF THEM IS CYBER BULLYING and fucking mean.
I’m to the point that I’m afraid to be caught on film doing something silly or wearing something that you don’t approve of because you’re going to humiliate me all over your internet! Print some asshole meme on me! Share me around for all your friends to point and laugh and TEAR ME DOWN. Fuck you bully!!

Body shaming is humiliating, with often painful, long-term consequences. It mocks and stigmatizes its victims, tearing down self-respect and perpetuating the harmful idea that our unique physical appearances should be compared to air-brushed notions of ‘perfect.’ What really matters is our character and humanity. While body shaming, in itself, is not a crime, there are circumstances in which invading one’s privacy to accomplish it can be. And we shouldn’t tolerate that.

Can you imagine opening your FB one morning to find a picture of yourself SLAMMED all over w/comments and trash talk from strangers!? As if we're not insecure ENOUGH with ourselves. MY GOD; what is wrong with us!?

In the past, people would go to the mall, grocery store and judge people in passing. It was a brief and silent encounter. It is now much more frequent, personal and direct. What is worse, it happens in large groups, thus reinforcing a group bully mentality.

We used to live in a world that, yeah sure, homegirl is dressed like an Arizona tea can, giggle and move on!! Don’t photograph and plaster her all over the internet!! Big girl is chowing down on a hotdog at a baseball game, look the other way and eat your own hotdog! Couple is wearing a thong speedo at the beach, put your eyes back in and leave it alone; that’s the STYLE/NORM in Europe! How about the woman smiling for her friends engagement that you just couldn't leave alone because her teeth aren't perfect? I could go on and ON with examples!
Whatever it is!!... Look, comment, judge, giggle, whatever you gotta do. And then...
People don’t look like you, SO SORRY. People don’t dress like you, SO SORRY ...it’s not your business! And definitely not for you to secretly photograph and share.

If you post them on social media, you’re a bully!! And an asshole.

To all of you who have had your photos posted on social media, unwillingly, unknowingly, to be made fun of... I'm so sorry that we live in a world of assholes.
