Accountability is Back - Ironman Tallinn 70.3

Accountability is back on the blog! After a disappointing DNS at Tours 70.3, I'm signed up for Tallinn, Estonia 70.3. We have been to Tallinn before, but not to race. Estonia was a part of our Baltics tour back in 2020. We loved it there! We felt very welcome and there was a great vibe to the city. I chose this race primarily for timing - end of August. And secondarily for course - the most similar to Tours.

I want to race. And I want to race strong. So I'll take the next few weeks (with no travel plans in sight until then!!) to focus and train hard, stay well and healthy, be HAPPY and grateful... And do what I do!

Monday, June 9 - 45mins on the KickR + 3 miles run outside. Right out the gate with a brick (sort of). Trainer to pavement doesn't always feel like a brick or as hard as a brick I should say... But my goal is weekly/shorter rides on the trainer and endurance sessions outside on the weekends.

I got this done early as I had a full plate of work ahead of me. Plus, it suddenly became summer and it's hot hot hot! Off to a good start!

BIKE + RUN

Tuesday, June 10 - I woke up not feeling my best... a bit of anxiety and feeling overwhelmed. I got on the KickR for 30mins but did not go swim. Had a GYN appointment and confirmed a cyst remains in my ovary so now there's that looming over me. Sigh...

BIKE

Wednesday, June 11 - Up this morning and feeling better. Grabbed a 30min early run before heading to the gym for a chest workout and a 1,500m swim. Spent the rest of the day w/mom and Bob and later, Luca.

RUN + GYM + SWIM

Thursday, June 12 - Today is moms 67th birthday. I took her downtown to see the Dolce e Gabbana exhibit followed by a Big Mac lunch. Xandra and Olive arrived later in the afternoon and we had a beautiful seafood dinner for momma.

REST DAY

Friday, June 13 - Ooh, today is Friday the 13th! Got mom and Bob off to the train station to continue their European adventure. Jumped on the KickR for a 1 hour bike session followed by some stretching and ab work. I skipped a swim today - for no good reason.

BIKE + ABS

Saturday, June 14 - started the morning with a 10k run. My gosh, it was so hot even at 7 am!! The summer is going to be killer! Followed that up taking Luca and X to the Dolce e Gabbana exhibit (yes, I went twice, totally worth it!!), lunch in Rome, and later apertivo with new neighbors/friends John and Giulia.

RUN

Sunday, June 15 - Sunday's are for biking and I was up at 0600 and out the door by 0630 to beat the traffic AND the heat. It was already hot. But I got a decent 20 miles with some climbing in followed by a 1 mile brick (I'm bricking every single one of my long bikes for this training cycle in an effort to alleviate a horrible back pain that I get now). Yes, it's "only" 20 miles but  my bike training for Tours was practically nonexistent so I'm sort of starting over on the bike. I used my tri-bike - which I don't find super comfortable anymore. Next week I'll use road bike and make a decision if I want to continue using tri bike or road bike - Estonia is flat.

Spent the next couple of hours doing yardwork and then the afternoon with Luca, X, and Olive.

BIKE + RUN + YARDWORK

Not a very heavy week, but a good start back. I did skip two swims. For no good reason. So I'll adjust that (although, woke up Sunday and now Monday with an ear infection). I've never had an ear infection as an adult so I'm a bit perplexed. And Luca said don't swim. So. There's that.
