If You Never Tri, You'll Never Know!

Ironman Italy Week 4

I do this for myself and I do this for athletes. I am my own Coach so on days I don't feel like doing anything, I can get away with it. This helps me from doing that, I'm holding myself accountable to YOU! And, I want my athletes to see that I'm out here doing it too, training hard... I need rest days too, I have good workouts, bad workouts, amazing sessions, and shit sessions ~ just. like. YOU.

BIKE THEME WEEK

Monday, May 29, 2017 - am I making duck lips!? Anyway, a few fast miles on the flat and then headed to the hill ~ Montemarcello. I was honestly anxious going solo. The climb up isn't so horrible, I enjoy the challenge. But the down? It's very twisty turny and you can really pick up some speed. That's the scary part for me. Do you remember my tire situation wayyyy back in 2013 at Ironman Cabo? I nearly lost my back tire and had 112 miles of screaming hills ahead of me. Coming down that fast, still not knowing the roads well, fearing the crazy drivers also coming up or down the hill, worry over worry over worry ~ when did I become such a worry wart!? But this morning I said shut up Lisa, and do it... 35mins up (from my road) and 16mins down. Quick down! And I handled it just fine BOOM POW WHAM! Luca and I also hit the sea this evening for a quick swim.

Tuesday, May 30, 2017 - woke up this morning feeling sore from yesterday's climbing and yard work. It was a bit chilly and so I put off my 90min bike. I shouldn't have done that for I kept putting it off. And then I just wanted to be/stay at home. So I did 60mins on the trainer. Hey, it's better than not at all!! Luca came home for a spell before returning to work for night operations; just in time to try my calamari and shrimp w/rice and asparagus.
BIKE

Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - 1 hour on the trainer and then the road for 33 fast minutes. Luca and I joined some other pilots and their wives (ALL AMERICAN!!!) for happy hour tonight. It's been 3 months since I've been surrounded by that much English! Fun times and new friends!

Thursday, June 1, 2017 - did I type that correctly!? Are we reading this!? It's June!? How is it June already!? I don't even understand how time goes so quickly. I need to savor my moments more.
Today is a rest day. However, Luca and I decided to pool it up after work since our swim Monday was so short. Too much on our minds (and plates) we decided to get life done instead and took the break. I did make amazing limoncello sunrises after dinner though (cherry juice on the bottom, orange juice, pineapple juice, limoncello on top. Cheers and pinkies up!

Friday, June 2, 2017 - it's a national holiday here (similar to Memorial Day) so Luca was off work ~ YAY!! We woke up with no alarm and went for a run at our leisure. 60mins. Then we packed up and headed to Lerici. I love swimming there! It's like a giant swimming pool. And while it's open water and of course I'm anxious, I find comfort quickly and there's always people around. I think I could even swim here by myself! We ended up getting 3,000 meters in. I'm so pleased with that even though it took me just over an hour. A big weekend ahead of biking...

Saturday, June 3, 2017 - holy gosh, I think I experience my first migraine ever. We had a glass of wine last night but I woke up feeling like I had 5 bottles! I spent the morning nursing the pretend hangover, guzzling water and choked down several Advil. No success. I couldn't even nap it hurt so bad. By evening I felt NAUSEOUS. I took way too many pain relievers and they wouldn't cut it. Wouldn't even take the edge off. WTF!? I was in tears and finally fell asleep (woke up Sunday and the thudding remained, I've downed a few more Advil and it at least took the edge off). Needless to say...
REST DAY

Sunday, June 4, 2017 - today is my big bike day and so far, it's raining. Ahhh!! My headache is slowing fading away but not really. I can't even believe how legit this was/is. I think this is my first migraine. I did not bike. Going for it tomorrow.
REST DAY

I had a lot of solid rides early in the week and ended up finished it out with a solid open water swim instead of two more solid bikes. Hey, it happens! It's life. And who could have guessed I would  have a migraine like this!?
