Accountability - Birthday Week and 4th of July

Monday, June 30, 2025 - woke up wishing I had a rest day. It's not that I feel beatdown nor tired. I just feel like I have a lot to do... but it's Monday, I literally always feel like this on Monday's.
So, when should you take a rest day?
As a coach, I can usually see and feel when my athletes are starting to fatigue. Some people prefer to schedule a set rest day each week, like Monday, to ensure they’re recovering consistently. For experienced athletes, it’s often possible to train for 8–10 days before truly needing a break, but I still like to build in regular weekly rest days. After all, rest days are when the real magic happens. That’s when your body repairs, adapts, and comes back stronger!
That said, headed to the gym for strength and swim. I should have listened to my gut. The gym was a disaster. I swear, if you don't have the body of a magazine model, fake boobs, fake lips, full makeup, and in underwear, NO ONE SEES YOU! It's so annoying. I asked two men for help to get the thingy to hang the thingy on it... Totally ignored! I was so flustered I cut my session short and went to swim. Once in the water, I did start to feel tired and frustrated. I still got 30mins of chest and tri's and 1300m swim so it wasn't a complete fail. But it was annoying.

Tuesday, July 1 - welcome July! Tomorrow is my birthday. 45. Do you think I'm mid-life? Maybe even past mid-life considering we don't know when/how we're going to die. I hope I'm pre-mid-life. Or at least right at the half way point. I like being alive and want to live until I'm very old. Jumped on the trainer for a 1 hour bike. It was tempo...or threshold. One of those.
BIKE
Wednesday, July 2 - happy birthday to me!!! 45mins of all the things (which included a 45min nap after!!). A quiet afternoon of errands and dinner with Luca (and Ale) at Coltilde. Pizza and cheesecake. Friday we're having a party.
RUN + BIKE + SWIM + nap
Thursday, July 3 - to the gym for a back and shoulder workout (and squats). And then jumped in the pool for a 45mins swim.

Friday, July 4 - Happy 4th! It's a bittersweet day. I lost my dad on July 4, 2022. 3 years ago. I choose to celebrate for my dad. We had a BBQ get together at our house, 25 people... And even got some fireworks to close out the night. My goal was to run in the a.m. before party prep but we had so much to do. I took it as a bonus rest day.
REST DAY
Saturday, July 5 - an official recovery day...
Sunday, July 6 - 40 miles on the bike with a 2 mile brick run. I'm cringing at myself for missing my long run this week. Reset and fire again! Spent the day post training at the lake. No official swim but played in the water to stay cool!
