Week 19 & 20 Ironman Kona


Monday, Sep 30, 2019 - oh man... final week. I just got butterflies! VA follow up appointment this morning (and tomorrow and Wednesday!!). I was stubborn about a rest day today even though Coach (who is also me BTW) wanted a swim.

Tuesday, Oct 1 - hello October!! I went and swam. 2,000 yards 500 at a time - negative splits. And then to the VA... can you hear my eyeroll? Today is the grands 64th wedding anniversary. WOW. I hope I'm so lucky to spend the next 64 years with the love of my life too.

Wednesday, Oct 2 - guys, TWO days to my love. EEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!

Thursday, Oct 3 - the week has been a whirlwind of appointments, last minute stuff, packing, excitement, and fear. Ha!!! Today I at least got out on my bike for an hour.

Friday, Oct 4 - and I'm off to Kona!! Uneventful flights (except just forever!!) and arrived in Kona to be welcomed by my love! We picked up our car, a few groceries, settled in our condo, and explored the area. Later, a delicious dinner at Fish Hopper's.

Saturday, Oct 5 - early to bed last night meant early rise this morning!! We love this schedule!! Tested the waters with a short swim, the heat on the bike, and more exploring. It's HOT. I forgot my swim cap. Oops. And felt the nerves (and heat) through the day. Lunch at Daylight Mind (w/pro triathlete spotting) and grilled out at the condo later.

Sunday, Oct 6 - 4am wake up. WOW. Of course, we were in bed by 8pm. So...
We watched the official training swim from our balcony (it was the full 2.4 miles, I didn't want to swim that far a week out so I'll get in later) and had a beautiful omelet and papaya breakfast.
Later, a 600 yard swim, 30 minute bike, and 10 minute run. It was SO hot.

Monday, Oct 7 - this morning we're up early again and ready to explore. We ran 40 minutes in the Energy Lab (a hot hot hot section of the run course) and explored some lava fields. Excited for the Ironman Village to open tomorrow!!
