My Mom the Triathlete
Hee hee hee, it makes me giggle. I don't know why! I guess I never imagined my mother would become a triathlete. Not that she couldn't just that she didn't want to. She's been Ironman Support Crew for her little sister for over 20 years and now also mine for the last few.
She's followed my running couch to 5k program several times and even got up to 7 miles (before breaking her foot). She's always been a cyclist and into fitness. We have all asked her, "When are YOU going to do a triathlon?" Well, peer pressure's a bitch...cause after some enticement from all her girlfriends, she signed up for Vineman 70.3 (July 2015).
I get the call, "I need a Coach. Oh look, you're coming to Arizona for 3 weeks..."
Oh Lord, here we go ;) I love my momma, the woman would do anything on earth for me and has the soul of a Saint. Seriously, she doesn't have an ill ounce of blood in her.
In fact, since I'm bragging, my mother is the epitome of selfless. I'm going to scream it to the world because she never would... Thanksgiving night, just getting home from a longgg day/evening and she rushes off, having pulled food from her OWN fridge and pantry, to feed a new (starving) client who's an hour away. I am more than thankful to call this woman my momma.
So anyway, Mom found a poshy spa mini tri for us to do together with her friend Kathy and daughter Melissa. Kathy ended up breaking her arm and I grew a nut during Ironman so neither of us could race. That means I got to play SHERPA COACH for momma. We got in two swim lessons, one run session, put together a race plan, and used this mini tri as a base for the rest of her 70.3 training.
Let's talk about this poshy wonderful mini triathlon! It was a 300 yard swim in the resorts lazy river, a 10 mile bike, and a 2 mile run on the beautiful grounds of the resort. I'll let mom fill you in on the race details but I love the swanky gold swag bags and the post race mimosa's and chocolate covered strawberries. Oh yes Gulf Coast, we are SO having one of these... !!! <--- that's my wheels turning
